Why Choose Heart At Work?

Outplacement Transitions & Trailing Spouse/Accompanying Partner Services

As the only career counseling firm in Maine, we are experts in career development and transitions. Staying current with best practices and strategies in career transitions is always our primary focus.

Our outplacement offerings are tailored to the needs of each individual, unlike most firms that use standardized approaches and rely on impersonal Internet portals as the key resource. We help the client to quickly establish a promising plan for securing their next career opportunity.

The team knows the Maine marketplace and the needs of local employers. We make important connections for clients that foster strategic conversations critical to securing the right position. Our success rate is high: our clients secure jobs more quickly than the national average.

All employer inquiries are addressed within 24 hours.

Trailing Spouse/Accompanying Partner Services Options:

Joining a spouse or partner in a new city can be a stressful time. As the only exclusively career-focused firm in Maine, we are experts in career development and transitions.

Members of our team have worked in higher education, so we are accustomed to working with professionals with advanced degrees—we know how to help scientists, attorneys, doctors, and other professionals translate their skills to new work environments.

Experts in LinkedIn, we advise the spouse/partner on how to leverage their undergraduate and graduate school alumni/ae to extend their network here in Maine.

In addition to weekly or bi-monthly career counseling sessions with one of our associates, spouses/partners have access to a career coach between sessions and may select any of our offerings:

  • Assessment of career direction (skills, personality and interest/values assessments); coaching on communicating skills and value; job search essentials: resume and cover letter guidance, LinkedIn consults, videoed and critiqued practice interviews, marketplace contacts, job offer negotiation.

“I simply wanted to let you know how wonderful it was working with Barbara for outplacement services with Heart At Work. The good news for me is that within 30 days of working with her I have an offer for a new job. And I have to give Barbara so much credit for helping me create a professional resume and for dramatically improving my LinkedIn profile. I honestly don’t think I would have seen so much attention from recruiters without her help in these 2 key areas. She was kind, patient, yet very insightful regarding what needed to be done. So thank you for having this as part of the severance package. It made a world of difference for me.”
